Barium
Barium
Widely used in its BaSO4 form, barium is reputed for
its whitening, non-abrasive properties as well as for its high density and
chemical neutrality. Barium is a silver-coloured soft metal and is used by
numerous industrial players, starting with the oil groups who use it as an
additive to work the density of drilling muds. In addition, its high X-ray and
gamma-ray absorption capacity make it a preferred element for radiologists, who
use barium meal as a radiological opacifier.
