Due to its resistance to corrosion and tarnishing, chromium is widely used in the metalworking industry. Chromium is notably used for "hard chromium plating" (surface treatment by electrolysis), to ensure increased protection of mechanical parts against wear and tear. Chromium is also used in "decorative chromium plating" for its brilliant and reflective properties. In addition, due to its antioxidant capacities, chromium is regularly used in conjunction with steel and carbon bases for the manufacture of stainless steel.
