Tellurium is a silver-coloured metalloid frequently used in the metalworking industry to improve the machinability of steels. The main application of tellurium is in its alloys with copper (Cu): it enhances its electrical and thermal conductivity, making it very suitable for machining. In its CdTe form, tellurium is an excellent alternative to Silicon (Si) for the production of photovoltaic panels.
