Derived from the term "chelation",
which refers to the binding of a ligand (in chemistry, the ligand is an atom,
ion or molecule whose chemical functions allow it to bind to central atoms or
ions) to a metal cation to form a complex that includes at least two bonds. A
chelating agent is a compound in which a metal atom is trapped between
electronegative atoms bonded to an organic radical.
Examples of use: - Iron supply for aquarium plants - Bioremediation (treatment of contaminated environments, such as water) - Dental adhesive - Contrast agent for MRI | Some chelating agents: - iron chelating agent - EDTA chelating agent - zinc chelating agent - manganese chelate complex - copper chelating agent - cobalt chelating agent
