Lithium nitrate is an inorganic compound. It is the lithium salt of nitric acid, highly soluble in water and ethanol. Lithium nitrate comes in the form of white to colourless and odourless, highly hygroscopic crystals. It is more often found as LiNO3-H20 trihydrate; this form becomes anhydrous again at 28.8 °C, releasing its crystallization water. The relatively small size of the lithium cation makes this nitrate extremely polarizing, and promotes the formation of oxide. Lithium nitrate is also a very good oxidizing agent.
