Tin chloride is a white, odourless, crystalline ionic solid with the raw formula SnCl2. Tin chloride oxidises slowly in air to stannic chloride. In the presence of gold in solution, its colour changes to violet. It should not be confused with stannic chloride (SnCl4) or tin(IV) chloride, which is more dangerous.
