Lanthanum, with the symbol La, part of the Lanthanide series belongs to the RARE EARTH elements family. Rare earth resources are abundant, but not often found concentrated in rare-earth minerals, hence their name. The most abundant are cerium, Neodymium and lanthanum. In single crystal form, lanthanum is a malleable silvery white metal that is soft enough to be cut with a knife. The various lanthanum derivatives (chloride, oxide, etc.) are used in various industries. The formula LaCL3, 7H2O chloride comes in the form of white crystals that are highly soluble in water.
