Description
Lanthanum, with the symbol La, part of the Lanthanide series belongs to the RARE EARTH elements family. Rare earth resources are abundant, but not often found concentrated in rare-earth minerals, hence their name. The most abundant are cerium, Neodymium and lanthanum. In single crystal form, lanthanum is a malleable silvery white metal soft enough to be cut with a knife. Lanthanum derivatives are used in a wide range of industries, with oxide (La2O3) being the most common and most sought-after form (especially in glass).
