Phosphorous acid is a diacid obtained by partial oxidation of phosphorus. It is also an oxy-acid in equilibrium with its tautomeric form, phosphonic acid. It can be synthesized by treating carboxylic acid H3PO3 or more often by treatment of phosphorus trichloride (PCl3). It is mainly used in agriculture as a fertilizer or for the formation of phosphite salts"
